Announcing Xgig 3.6: 6G SAS/SATA and 8G Fibre Channel (FC) Analyzer Combined Release

The 6G SAS/SATA and 8G Fibre Channel Analyzer combined release, Version 3.6, is now available on the Finisar portal! To access it, point your browser to: http://ntcustomer.finisar.com:8080/login.xgig.aspx.

The Xgig® 8G Fibre channel Analyzer is the industry’s leading protocol analysis tool. It supports 1, 2, 4 and 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel as well as upper layer protocols such as iSCSI, FCP, FICON, and FCIP. For Xgig® blades that support Gigabit Ethernet, Version 3.6 also supports Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) protocol.

  • The new 8.5 Gb/s FC blade introduced in this release has 4 SFP+ compatible ports that support 1.0625, 2.125, 4.25 and 8.5 Gb/s Fibre Channel data rates.

  • The new Analyzer blade implements a deep trace buffer offering 2GB per SFP port for a total of 8 GB on one blade.

  • Finisar has implemented scrambling feature in hardware following the 8GFC specification. Scrambling is available at all four data speeds (1.0625, 2.125, 4.25 and 8.5 Gb/s). The default setting for 8.5 Gb/s is scrambling on and scrambling off for all other speeds.

  • The new Xgig 8.5 Gb/s FC Analyzer blade continues to support analog pass-through and digital re-time probing options with nominal signal quality impact and data stream clean-up.

  • Xgig Expert support for the most recent updates on the 8GFC specification from INCITS T11 committee, such as ARB(ff ) decoded as IDLEs.

  • TraceControl now reports SFP Tx/Rx optical power readings.

  • Each Xgig 8.5 Gb/s FC blade can serve as a protocol analyzer, Jammer, BERT, and/or Load Tester through simple software configurations without the need of modifying hardware.

Also in version 3.6, Finisar extends the Xgig® family with the addition of 6 Gb/s SAS/SATA support. Line rates supported include SAS and SATA 1.5, 3.0, and 6.0 Gb/s. Other features of the release include the following.

  • DWORD search to quickly find information within frames

  • Detection and decodes for new 6 Gb/s OOB signaling

  • Support for analog pass-through and digital re-time probing options (These provide nominal signal quality impact and data stream clean-up, respectively

  • Implementation of SAS-2 at all speeds to support testing SAS-2 features at lower clock rates

  • Native Mini-SAS 4x Connector Interfaces to simplify cabling

  • Quad Memory support with 4 banks of memory per port pair, which allows taking multiple traces into the different memory segments

  • 1 GB SODIMM memory to allow the double-wide 6Gb/s SAS/SATA blade to support up to 16 GBs of physical memory total - 4 GB of memory per port-pair

  • Spread-Spectrum Clocking (SSC) support

  • Decodes all new SAS-2 primitives and Zoning commands

Announcing SAN Commander 2.6.3 (Maintenance Release)

SAN Commander is a 4 G/s Wire-Speed, Multi-Port SAN Testing Solution. This is a software-only maintenance release. Version 2.6.3 fixes multiple customer bugs and introduces new enhancements and features including the following. (For a complete list including numbers, see the proceeding page.)

  • Updated online help

  • Implemented execution of Integrity Test through Topology Viewer

  • Added progress indicator when executing SCSI format and verify commands

  • Fixed execution of SCSI format command on JBOD

  • Improved multiple-tester support in Integrity Test and BERT

  • Fixed Tx/Rx frame count mismatch in Integrity Test/BERT for multiple tester. [Fixed and non-fixed payload size]

  • Fixed test length inconsistency in Integrity Test

  • Improved boundary checking for Integrity Test Settings

  • Bumped script file version due to changes in Integrity script file format

A complete list of fixes, with tracking numbers, is included on the last page. Note that this SAN Commander release is not available on the Finisar portal. Customers needing the release should email techsupport@finisar.com.
